New Zealand…days 14 & 15 Nelson – wine and beautiful scenery

Today we had a two night stay with a friend of mine, Liz, and her family.  Nelson is on the north coast of the south island and is very laid back.  After driving -across more mountains and through Blenheim we arrived in Nelson.  After relaxing with a lot of wine and a variety of cheeses we ate a lovely home-made dinner.  That night we were able to sit back and relax and chat with Liz and Adrian.

The next day we had a nice, easy start to the day before driving to a beautiful seaside town called Kaitereri.  The beach is rated as one of the best beaches on the South Island.  We went to the Shoreline Cafe for lunch.  They had a nice menu but the serves were far too big.

About a month before we arrived there had been terrible storms in the Nelson region, causing serious damage to roads and mountains.  The photo above shows one such landslide.

On the way back to Liz’s house we stopped off at a winery to sample some of the regions famouse wines.
