Adriano Zumbo opened his first store outside Sydney on October 9 in South Yarra. I, along with many others, have been eagerly awaiting the opening since I heard about it. Last weekend was the first chance I’ve had to go so went with a friend. Another friend recommended we go early in the day in case they sold out and closed the store, which they have had to do a few times. I’d also been warned that the queues might be long. We were pleasantly surprised to be able to walk straight in and not find a queue. Although one did form a few minutes later.
The interior is retro and trendy. The seats and benches are made to look like ‘a candy floss machine gone mad’ according to another friend of mine. The glass cabinets are filled with cakes, pastries and his famous Zumbarons. We had to do two loops to work out what we wanted to buy. Everything looks so nice. We bought a variety of cakes and Zumbarons (Adriano’s version of macarons) and I bought a Caramelised Leek and Goat’s Cheese Quiche for lunch.
